Newborn Session Prep Guide
I know life with a new baby can feel a little unpredictable, so I want your session to be as easy and low-stress as possible. Here are some simple tips to help things go smoothly:
What to Expect
We go with the flow β Babies eat, cry, and need diaper changes, and thatβs all part of the session. Weβll pause when needed.
Siblings first β If youβve got older kids, Iβll start with them so they can join in and then move on when theyβre ready.
At home and comfortable β I usually shoot in the rooms with the best light (bedroom, living room, nursery). No need to make your whole house spotlessβjust clear a couple of spots.
Getting Your Space Ready
Light matters β Open blinds and curtains so we have good natural light.
Turn the heat up a bit β Babies are happiest when theyβre warm.
Tidy lightly β Just clear surfaces where weβll shoot. Donβt worry about the rest.
What to Wear
Keep it simple β Neutral or soft colors photograph really well and let baby shine.
Comfort is key β Choose outfits you can relax in.
For baby β Onesies, swaddles, or even just a diaper and blanket. No need for fancy outfits.
Day-Of Tips
Feed baby before I arrive so they start out settled.
Expect breaks β Crying, feeding, diaper changesβitβs all normal and part of the process.
Add personal touches β If you have a special blanket, quilt, or stuffed animal, keep it nearby.
A Quick Reminder
These sessions arenβt about perfect posingβtheyβre about you enjoying your baby and this new stage. The best photos happen when youβre just snuggling, hanging out, and being yourselves.
The newborn stage goes by fast, but thatβs exactly why I love photographing it. Donβt worry about having the βperfectβ house, baby, or outfitsβthereβs no such thing.
What matters most is capturing your family as you are right now.
Iβll guide you through everything during the session, so once I arrive, you can just focus on your baby and each other. Thatβs when the best moments happen.
I canβt wait to spend this time with you and your little one.
