Family Session Prep Guide
I keep sessions pretty laid back and adjust as we go, especially with kids.
You don’t need to worry about everything going perfectly. The best photos usually come from just being together and letting things play out naturally.
Choosing a Location
We’ll choose a spot together that fits your family and what you actually enjoy doing together.
Parks, beaches, and open spaces always work really well
We can also plan something a little more activity-based, like grabbing ice cream, walking to your favorite coffee spot, having a picnic, or even a ferry ride
I’ll guide you based on light, season, and what tends to work best with kids
If you already have something in mind, I’m always open to it
Some families like to keep things simple, and others turn it into more of an outing. Both are great; it just depends on what feels most like you.
What to Wear
Keep things simple and comfortable.
Neutrals and softer tones photograph really well
Avoid large logos or really busy patterns
Coordinate without matching exactly
Wear something you can move around in easily
Layers and texture always add a nice touch
If you’re not sure where to start, you’re not alone. I’m always happy to help pull things together or look over outfits.
The biggest thing is that you feel good in what you’re wearing. When you feel comfortable and confident, it shows in the photos.
For the Kiddos
No need to prep them for “perfect” behavior; I will rarely ask them to look into the camera or say “cheese”.
I’ll follow their lead and adjust as needed
Non-messy snacks are always a good idea
Let them show up as they are; that’s usually when things work best
Timing + Light
Sessions are planned around the best light, usually near sunset
Try to arrive a few minutes early so we can start relaxed
If you’re running late, just send me a quick text
After Your Session
Your gallery will be ready in about 4 weeks.
You’ll be able to download your high-res images and order prints directly from your gallery.
I’ll guide you through the whole session, so you’re not left wondering what to do. It’s a mix of movement and light direction, nothing overly posed.
If you’re unsure about outfits, location, or anything leading up to your session, I’m always here to help.
The biggest thing is that you feel comfortable going into it. That’s what makes the difference.
